Self portrait through Effi's glasses
During our excavation, we stayed at Kfar Galim, a kibbutz near Tirat Carmel, about 10 minutes away from Haifa. I was housed in the staff building as the photographer, which was nice because my AC worked all of the time and I had a private shower. Kibbutz life was a lot like camp: people cooped up together eating the same old food everyday trying to stay entertained for fear of burning alive in the Israeli sun.
There were people of all ages on the dig, from 14 to 70, it was definitely an ecclectic experience. I met people from all different backgrounds, all different majors, from all over the country, and the world. The staff archaeologists reminded me a lot of working at The Daily Cal. They were passionate about their work and took it very seriously. And come the weekend, they took leisure and partying the same way. You had to let loose on the weekend, otherwise you might have just gone insane.
