Adwentures, part 2

Kölner Dom

Friday we found ourselves running to a Berlin Linien Bus to make the 7:30am departure to Düsseldorf where we would arrive around 4:30pm. Why Düsseldorf? Our friend lives in a "very small town" near there. The plan was to hang out until 10 when he and our other friend were getting in by train, then go to his place together

The bus ride was long, but bearable seeing as we all needed sleep (which we did for the duration of the journey). Throughout the day the bus emptied out along various stops, we were 3 of a handful in it for the long haul.

After arriving in Düsseldorf we oriented ourselves and found some food, then it was off to Uerige for some Altbier (the region's brew). The place was what you'd expect from Germany, it was perfect. The waiters set down another glass as soon as they saw your empty one and marked down how many you drank on a coaster. We had to beg for the check by the end.

We ended up having to cab to our friend's because of the weather. Alex, Erica, and I were unsure about how meeting the family would all play out, but Vincent's parents were so nice and hospitable. It was nice to be in a home environment after AEPP and random hostels for weeks.

Saturday we drove down the autobahn and went to Cologne for the day. Of course in true tourist tradition we climbed to the top of the cathedral, which was even more massive than I'd imagined from class. After we wandered around for a bit before finding some Kölsch, their local brew. That night we bar crawled in Düsseldorf until breaking down in a cab around 5am in the middle of Germany, hence, adwentures.

Germany was a great success, I will definitely be back.
